Made it Through!

Oh yessss!! It's happening alright!
To date, I have lost 8 1/2 lbs and 10 1/2 inches all over! Wow just amazing!! I am so excited!
That completes my week 4 and today is rest day! I sure do need it as I can feel my muscles are sore from yesterday and the day before as I had increased the weight a bit. I am going to pick up 6 lb weights here soon as the 8s seem to be a bit too heavy right now to jump there from 5s.

It's so exciting tho'!! I am doing it!! It's happening! I'm getting more fit and healthier! YAY!!

I think I love and now prefer to take measurements every 2 weeks to see the numbers fall like that. Gives me a better average. :)

For now, breakfast and yes, that's right, NO PANCAKES! They are making pancakes and asked me what kind do I want and I said....NONE! Hahahaha!

NO WAY!

I think I will go see about some breakfast now and just be so damn happy about this weight loss and even more importantly, the inches lost!! :)

And more than that, just how I feel!!!

Richard Simmons --Love Yourself and Win

I wanted to write a review of sorts about this video.
Richard Simmons
Love Yourself and Win
Six Steps to Self-Esteem & Permanent Weight Loss

I was over at Time Life website looking for a music collection I had seen on tv when I looked at their clearance section and there was this dvd. I thought it was a cd. It was on sale for just $5.99 and I was like wow! I love Richard Simmons! He's such a kooky guy but what a heart of gold that man has! I've watched him since the 80s or so and have always been impressed with his true caring he has for people who are struggling with weight. I also admire him greatly for all the wonderful work he has done in this field.

I know he gets teased alot, but I read somewhere that he buys a 2nd plane ticket when he travels so that if anyone needed an extra seat or to come talk to him, they could. I don't know if he does that anymore but I thought that was just so sweet! Each time I see him start to cry or get emotional on shows or such, it just touches my heart.

What is funny is that I ordered this dvd, thinking it was a cd and when I got it, realized it was a dvd. It felt familiar to me but I could not remember it. So I put it into my computer and pushed play and began to watch it. I was like wow...I've seen this before! I realized then I must have a copy of this somewhere in the house! It made me smile and tear up again to watch it tho' and wow to see all those people and the results they had on his programs! Just amazing!

He's right too, you know. You have to love yourself. I won't give away all that is in the short video, but it is well worth the $5.99 I paid for it, again! I knew the reason I probably got it a second time, not just cause I forgot or thought this was something new of his I might have missed, but more than likely, it was cause I needed to give this to someone who really needs to hear his words, his message. They need to love themselves. To accept themselves on the inside so that they can start to take better care of who they are on the inside.

Aye, I am with you Richard.

I know, I needed to hear this too, again. It was probably more so the reason why I got it. Something inside me needed to hear those words. To hear the pat on your back and feel it, feel the sting in my eyes as I watched Richard tear up again. To know, that it's ok and that yes, Wanda, you are doing so well and doing the best that you can and it's ok. More than ok, it's fantastic!

So thank you, Richard, thank you for being you and putting yourself out there to the world like you do and making such a huge difference in so many people's lives. Your energy and drive are catchy and contagious and I love it and you darlin'! You are amazing!

YES!!! Back down again!

Ok now this was very cool! During my cycle, I was bad and had succumbed to those dark chocolate covered pretzels from Godiva. OMG! They are like the best I've ever had! Definitely my weakness. I had the can sitting out there and was having just one a day, maybe two...then two led to three....etc etc. Then finally during my cycle, I had more.
Of course going to that mexican restaurant with my daughter and even tho' I only had half of one of their small chicken quesadillas, I also had chips and yet just a bite of the chocolate molten cake and had more so the one sliced strawberry. Lots of unsweetened tea.

Well, I weighed myself and it was back to 196.5. :( Bad! But I also knew some of that might very well be the water retention that can sometimes happen with a woman's menstrual cycle. So yesterday, of course the goodies were gone and the day before as well as yesterday, I got back on track and wha-la! This morning is back to 194 flat!
Of course the cycle was over too which was amazin in of itself! As bad as it was, I was expecting it to last a good solid week or so like the last time but I am not sure if it was just cause I pushed thru the pain, taking good ol Advil and then finally took some ibuprofen which knocked out the pain very well and I went upstairs in the evenings to work out. I was determined that THIS TIME, I would not stop working out, short of an injury, I was going to get thru a cycle without having to stop.
What was wild was that it slowed down and then stopped. I was just amazed! I had gone on the internet to see if it was safe for me to do so, I know the internet of all things! But I read about other women who worked out during their period and some even didn't work out until they had their period! I just laughed at that. But many spoke of how it helped cramps and if you workout too hard even that it can stop your period or how many athletes don't get them much because they are always working out?
WOW!

So I thought ok, we are going to give this a try and it seemed like it worked! I was feeling fine other than the lower half of me just ick, but after taking the ibuprofen which I also read would help a lot too, I went on up there and pushed play each day! I am so proud of myself that I did that! I made it thru too! Yesterday, I was just so amazed and feeling so great! Today, I feel even better and to have seen that number like that! Right back to it! I don't mind maintaining at all, but wow! That was just incredible!

When I saw that it looked like I had gained 2.5 lbs, I was like damn! But I was resolving and telling myself, well, you know what Wanda? You lost that amount before, you can do it again, just keep on track! Plus, I know that the blue disk, the Sweat & Sculpt 3-4 is coming up in a few days and I know and have faith that that will really start to kick in my system to losing more fat! It's longer and harder and will be a great challenge for me over the next two months. I know months sound like that is a long time, but it's just 8 weeks. I can do that. It's not all that long! Faire will be here in just 4 weeks or so of that, so it's around the corner! Already,  I have finished 4 weeks as of today! I have to go upstairs yet and do the workout for today, but almost ready to do that, just waiting on my breakfast to digest a bit more. I had a chocolate Shakeology this morning and with water as I know I am about out of Vanilla Almond Milk.

So that's where I am right now! I know I will probably see 193.5 tomorrow morning when I go to take weight and measurements. I just have to be on track today and so far, so good! How exciting!
I'll be picking up some broccoli to steam for my salmon tonight and lunch will probably be a nice chicken caesar salad. I need to pick up some more apples too for the week.

I really can't begin to explain or describe the feeling I am feeling these past few days! A lightness inside me. It's almost as if a burden is lifted from your shoulders or like a weight has been removed from your heart or chest. It's just wild!

But I am going down baby! Yessiree bob I am!! YAY!

I was looking at the Insanity promo video yesterday and just amazed at all those washboard abs the men were getting! Just floored with how great their results were! And then I looked at P90X too. But wow...400 lb men going down to 6 packs?! That's just amazing!
Now there is no way I want to get any muscle definition like that. As a woman, I just want to be supple and my curves defined and to whittle away the thickening middle that happens to all middle aged women or threatens to happen to most of us anyway. I want a waist. I want my curves! I just don't want 'wide load' signs plastered on me, I just want to look good! And even more importantly? To FEEL good! Feel good about myself. I do for the most part, I just want my body to catch up to what my heart and soul feels! :)

With dedication and determination...I know I can do it! I am already on my way!

Puzzling...

I am not sure how I've been managing it, but I have been able to push thru my cycle and workout regardless of the pain and everything with it all! I've been right proud of myself that I have been able to do so as this has always been one of my obstacles to getting fit.
I could not suppress my sweet tooth and ate a bad dinner/snack combo yesterday at a mexican restaurant but not too too bad. I woke in pain and last night was not feeling too well for having eating a couple of those greasy things.
I know I just can't eat that stuff any longer, else I will suffer and pay for it. My stomach just can't handle it at all.
But you know what? I learned that my taste buds are already changing as I was drawn to the freshly sliced strawberry and rather that than the chocolate cake which I only have one bite of. I even didn't want the ice cream. Of course it was heaven to dip the strawberry into the chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Ok, so I haven't totally annihilated my sweet tooth but it's a step in the right direction!!

So that was wild!

Today of course went back to eating really well and I am still feeling a bit off but hope that things may right themselves over the course of the next few days. I am still very excited about moving from the yellow disk to the blue one! I haven't done that in so long, not since Vegas and so it is very exciting to see that I am really doing this! I am going to complete Power90!!

I think the next big hump will be that trip to San Antonio in April. A small obstacle will be the Ren Faire when it starts up but I am sure I can workout in the early hours before I am to leave for the Faire on Saturday mornings and so that will not be much of a problem at all.
It will be the trip that will be tough. I will take my food with me at least and the Power90 dvd as well.
I will be so close to finishing the whole program, I know I will not even want to mess that up! I will be gone from a Wed to Sunday. So that means Wednesday, Thurs, Fri, and Sat, 4 days of needing to work out and to eat fairly well. Taking Shakeology is a snap however what with the mixer cup they give you with it! And then I just premeasure in small snack sized ziplock bags and take my peppermint oil with me with the dropper and of course my snacks and the sharp knife for the apple which I usually get at my destination. So I should be ok with that particular trip.

I will take measurements for sure and pics as well on Sunday. Not sure how good or bad it will be but I know I need to before I get too far along. I want to really see the difference from having finished this program. Part of me has thought about doing another round of Power90 before I start P90X but I really want to get that program and give it a go so I will and see what I can do with it.

I may do two rounds of it so I can really get into shape and get strong enough to do all they want you to be able to do. So we'll see how it goes!

I should morph myself when I am done tho' and see the difference! That would be interesting!

Later on today, I'll be doing the Sweat 1-2. I still have been trying to get it done in the mornings but it's not been working out that way yet. Still working on that.

It's helped me alot to just sit and type here tho', just get out my thoughts and encourage myself to do this and push play!

Still gotta get some proper rest! Work it in somehow!

Another Test!

I was going to take measurements yesterday but figured I had better wait as Saturday my cycle began and I don't want to take false readings of me puffed up or holding any water.
This is another test however to keep on working out despite my cycle. They have become very bad lately and irregular so I just can't tell what will happen. I do know that I will be working out regardless today and just waiting on the wash to get my whites done so then I will go on up and get Sculpt 1-2 in.
It is just the Sculpt so after that and an appt later on today for the cats, I will be resting. Hopefully the worst of things will be over today.

This is the start of my 4th week of Power90!! I am sooo excited! The final week of the yellow disk!! On the 29th, I'll be starting the blue disk. I can't wait! Its just so amazing to me that I am actually going to do this! I can feel it for certain! I know, I know, I have said this many times and even said, "THIS TIME" it is different!

Famous last words, eh?

But it is happening! I have done so well so far.
But no excuses, cycle or no! I am going to do this!

Still holding at 193.5 yesterday...today saw 194 but I am not worried about that. I ate fairly well yesterday, just dinner was a bit off with one slice of the homemade bread and a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup. I didn't have alot but I also had some chocolate covered pretzels to try to qualm the muscle cramps that were just playing havoc with me all day yesterday, coupled with good ol' Advil!

I am still feeling really good tho', despite all the intermittent pain. I feel lighter and stronger! I was up a bit late last night so a bit sleepy but I'll get some rest later on today.

I do have to say the best part of this go-round, has been that I am not deflating! As the fat is going, the muscles are increasing! That is just so exciting. I am still fully planning on ordering P90X when I am close to finishing Power90. I think it will be greatly motivating too to have a new shiny program and probably supplements with it and other new items as well! I am expecting it to really kick my butt and be very challenging! Heck, even the blue disk, the Sweat/Sculpt 3-4 should be a challenge as well as it goes for a longer period of time than the yellow Sweat/Sculpt 1-2 does. I will have to start to get up at 6 am then to get it completed to be sure I can fit it into my day. Besides, I will have to do that anyway on Saturdays come April when the Faire starts and I will not want to miss any of my workouts. April will be my last 30 days of the Power90! That means P90X will have to get ordered in April to be sure I get it in time.
I was thinking of being a coach, although it does cost money each month from what I have seen. It still kinda bugs me that I did not want a coach but got one assigned to me. At least I am not being bugged.
I know not many are really reading this and that's ok to me, because I am writing it all mostly for me.
To keep my motivation going and give myself some encouragement. If someone comes along and finds it and reads it and gets some motivation as well or gets that lil nudge to get them to keep pushing play and exercising, I am glad! :)
I am also using this as a way to document the ups and downs of it all. The full on battle for me and I know for many other women this can be too. I still hear my one friend telling me how many years I've been doing this and fighting this and why don't I just let it go and give in and be happy where I am at?
And I would, except for one big reason is that this is not healthy for me.
I don't want cholesterol meds.
I don't want to face a medicine cabinet full of drugs I have to take each morning. Bad enough I am having to take vitamins. I hate pills. Bad enough just having to take the Advil at times like this weekend for cramps.
I really dislike pills.

I am also wanting to wear better and nicer clothes and look better. I don't want to be skinny but I really don't want to be this weight either. I don't want to be model-skinny or Barbie top-heavy. But I would like to at least cast a nice enough silhouette where I feel good about myself. I love who I have become on the inside, I just want to have the outside match it a bit better! It's why I wouldn't want to go down to 125, that's just too thin. 150-160 would be fine and I am really not that far from there!! That's what is so exciting about it all!

I really am not! :)

So I know I can do this with some effort and in the meantime, I am eating healthier than ever and taking better care of me. You have to start sometime and looking at my past history, I've had a lot of starts!! I just need to finish and not fall back to the same ol bad habits. Stop the yo-yoing. Change my lifestyle and be more active. That's key.

So....the plan for now is Power90 and walking at the Ren Faire. I'll be taking a cooler with me for bottled water and probably my snacks to keep cold until I get in at the faire. I figure if I get up at 6 am, workout for an hour, come down, shower, have breakfast by say...7:30 and then start to get dressed, snack at 9:30 and then by 10:30 to drive down there and puts me there at 11:30 which would be time for my lunch(shakeology). I could take it down with me in the cooler and then drink it just before I go in and carry my next snack for 1:30 inside the gate with me plus, I'll be having that at the wine tasting too. A special note to make sure I take some crackers with me for that as well. So if I leave by 4:30, home by 5:30, I should be able to make my dinner in time.

That takes care of April and I order P90X and I would start that then hmm, I believe they say for you to take like a week or so break before starting a new program. Still, that puts P90X start date in May.
I know that will be another full on 90 day program and that takes me to August nearly. Finishing right about vacation time. Good break!

Busy spring and summer but it will be so worth the effort tho' come vacation time! To walk down the boardwalk at the shore and just feel so grand! Even to be on the beach and know I don't look like or feel like a beached whale!! Awesome!

I want some definition! I want a silhouette of some angles and curves and not a blob with legs.

But most of all....I want to be healthy. As trim as I can get myself. I don't want a body-builder physique nor to have muscles bulging. Just to remove some of the middle thickening would be good for me. :)

No cholesterol meds, only vitamins & supplements.

Healthier...happier, me! :)

Finishing Week 3!

Wow! Such an accomplishment to have finished week 3! I saw 193.5 this morning and was just so excited! It felt good to go workout earlier and get all sweaty and know that tomorrow I can rest and that today completed week 3 of Power90!
I am so excited and could feel that things are really moving around and I am getting so much stronger and feeling lighter all the time!

Of course my cycle just began but I will push thru it no matter what! I will not stop this time!! I can't and I won't! I would have to really injure myself before I would stop.
I feel as though I am on the brink of actually completing this program and I could not be happier! I will have pics taken tomorrow and do measurements as well again and clock all that in.
I know the pics are a bit late but hey, better late than never! :)
I was thinking of maybe waiting til I hit my 30 day mark but I am not sure. I know I will need to take them at 30 and 60 and then again when I am done on the 90th day!

I can't begin to say how grand it feels tho' to know that I am doing it. To see that I can and have done this!! AND! On top of that, not only am I committing to it, dedicating myself to it, but I know that at the end of these 90 days, that I will be so much more healthier than I have ever been!!

So tomorrow is measurement time and rest! :)

Don't Look!

If you are like me, someone who loves to get on that scale every morning to see how much you weigh, you have to keep several things in mind!
Number one, is that the scale is very misleading. It will show you how much you weigh, yes, but it can not tell you whether that is muscle or fat or how much of each? Unless of course you get one of those scales that will scan your body and tell you some of those numbers like water weight, body mass, fat percentage, etc etc...
I do love those scales. I had one or two of them but after a while it was a pain to have to tap in your information each time. I even had a scale that kept track of which person you are, profile 1 or 2 or 5. But I just couldn't see it as being all that accurate and I needed to have the chart blown up or something to help explain the numbers and letters and not only that, but those numbers flashed off so fast, I wouldn't catch them half the time!

It was also hard to figure out how accurate it really was.

Soooo I opted to get a regular old scale that just showed me big digital numbers I can see easily.
BUT!
I got that scale with the understanding that it would be a general number and not specific to fat or muscle ratios. Now when I step on the scale, I have to really fix my mind to not get discouraged when I see the number higher at all. A few times I might think it is stuck and the way to find out is to grab something heavy and step back on the scale. If it goes up, I know it's not broke!

So anyway...talking about that this morning because I've been stuck at the 194 mark. 194.5, 194...it's hovering there. But I reminded myself that that's ok. It's not going up and it means, which my muscles were a telltale sign and confirmation of it, that I am gaining muscle.
My muscles are getting stronger and I am building them now at this point. I know so long as I keep at it and continue to eat right, the number on the scale will drop again!

I have faith in that and the biggest reason or confirmation I can have that yes, things are moving around inside me, are the measurements. That is what really matters more than the weight total, that's the measurements. I have taken measurements at the start and every now and then, I take them again to see my progress. So for this week of remaining still, and I know I ate a couple pieces of chocolate for Valentine's Day and over the past weekend too, for me to remain was just fine. My body has been adjusting to the workouts and I can still feel sore from them so I know they are still working and I have not completely gotten used to them yet. It seems that I am sweating more lately as well which is a good thing to me. It could be with with the warmer temps outside heating the room a bit more or just me.

I have lost 7 1/2 inches as of last Sunday and this Sunday, I'll be taking measurements again to see what has moved around, what was gained, what was lost. That's the exciting part for me, to see those numbers go down for I know that means lower sizes in clothes! You can be whatever number in weight but oh it's the clothes that matter most!! To be in a lower size and fit back into my favorite jeans and not have to squeeze into them or feel your circulation being cut off! Or to fit into my lower sized bodice for the Ren Faire...well there is nothing like that and lets you know you ARE looking good!

Last night I had some baked tilapia and steamed broccoli, a few carrots and applesauce. Not bad! :) Tonight will be some rotisserie chicken and steamed broccoli again, possibly the applesauce.
I will also be sure and eat every 2 hours and keep that up whereas last night I know I missed my times a bit and ate late again. So tonight will be early! :)
I've done really well not eating the ice cream that is in the freezer, nor gorging on the dark chocolate covered pretzels (my all time favorite). I've had one of those a day and that's it. I did well not eating those other two Reeses PB Valentine Hearts. I had one in the first package and that was it. I won't touch the other two. It just sat so heavy in my stomach and I felt blah after eating it. Could this be the end of that craving?? *blink* Say it isn't so! Haha!

Well, still...that makes me happy tho'. To finally break some of those bad habits and get back to healthy eating.

OH! By the by, I did call Shakeology yesterday and ordered the Strawberry/Vegan/Tropical/Pink Shakeology for March 1st! After I get it, I will change it back to Chocolate and postpone the next delivery until like June 1st as I still have another pouch of chocolate here and I already have one I just opened up. I wanted to try the strawberry however as to just have something different.

Plus, they said the Strawberry is Vegan and from one of those lil diet crazes, I want to say the blood type diet thing, I would do best being a Vegan. *ugh* Sorry, I just love meat way too much to give that up! I have set aside the beef a great deal. I won't say utterly or completely, but I have limited it to a very small amount and not often, made it a rarity in my diet.
A comment on the beef thing...I was at the doc's with my daughter for an appt as her ears have been bothering her, and I couldn't help but overhear this other lady in the waiting area talking about food. She had come from N'Orleans, obviously one of those who left from Hurricane Katrina. She was going on and on about the burgers here in Texas and how she has become a burger person now and has not ever gotten a bad burger in Texas, how much she loves them! I had to wince as they talked of people not knowing how to cook and how they loved having their fried catfish, mac & cheese, potatoes, corn, etc etc....the list went on. I listened to all that high fat and fried stuff and all the heavy carbs and things like that. Just how heavy that all sounded in the stomach to pile it on. The burgers alone, all that beef sitting around in her stomach and all I could think about was how she was setting herself up for high cholesterol and a heart attack later on in life.

I know, right, I should talk eh? When I was younger, first married, we often split a whole pound of hamburger, gorging on the Enchilada dinners from El Paso box dinners where we used a pound of hamburger and lots of cheese and we'd split that entire thing between us! Wow...I can't even imagine eating all that stuff now.  They were good back then but oh so bad!  We'd follow it up with a big ol York Peppermint Pattie of course, which was tons better for us than those enchiliadas! LOL
Unbelievable.

I think when you are young, at least 30 years or so ago for me, you just didn't really think about it that much. I was 19 and just doing alot of walkin and exercising too. We were much more active, going to waterparks on the weekends and to the beach and whatnot. I look back at when I was 144 or so and how 'fat' I thought I was. HA! I would love to be there again! But then, I think 152 or so was more perfect weight for me. The chart in the doc's office said I should be about 125. I think that is very old and outdated as that was what it was in the military too back in the '80s.
I don't have a petite body frame at all, it's more medium. Besides, I definitely do not want to lose my curves, just define them a bit. Having read online tho' that it is impossible to focus weight on one area and there is no way to save my curves from being slimmed down, I know without a doubt however that eating those fad diets or shakes or stuff, is not the way to go. It's all about lifestyle change and exercise. Food choices.

I think the Shakeology is probably an exception because of how healthy it really is and it is not meant to be your whole mainstay, but it teaches you about portion control and the type of foods you choose. Then, Beachbody comes in there and teaches you about muscle confusion and offers up the programs that fit your needs and preferences. I adored Slim in 6 for example. It was a simple 6 week program and if you dedicate yourself to it, it really did work! I loved it! I went from 191 to 179 on that program. It was awesome!

But see, going off it, going back to old habits...puts the weight right back on. I think diets and such fool you into thinking it's just a temporary thing. But what many don't realize it is only a temporary fix and like anything 'temporary', once you stop and go back to what you were doing, you will simply gain it all back and then some. It will be worse and harder to get it off. Harder to get started again and harder to maintain that workout regime and it is discouraging on top of that. You are fighting alot of battles then!

Why I am a firm believer that it is all about a lifestyle change, not a diet, but a permanent and more cognitive and conscious choices in what you do and what you eat and how much. It is also something that is hard to accept and stay with. As we get older and with these times being so much more health conscious than ever, I think we realize earlier on in life that we really do need to eat better. We start to listen to our bodies trying to tell us that OUCH! That hurts to eat that. We can see and feel it inside our bodies, our stomachs as it sits there like a lump of clay, dragging down our energy and dragging down our body as it starts to shut down and saying, OH HOLY CRAP! WHAT DID YOU JUST DO???!
So it will shut itself down to try to digest that heavy stuff or high fat stuff.

And yea, don't get me wrong...oh how I do love and adore that high fat stuff, that sweet stuff! Man o man I do, I do, I do, I do, I DO!
BUT!
My body is like ummm Wanda...NOT!
Don't do it!

I know I suffer because of it. And now, I have the doom of cholesterol meds looming over my head like a death knell. Saying you had better get your butt in gear and get healthy before you get stuck with a medicine cabinet to take every morning!! YIKES!

I won't forget seeing elderly people with their bottles upon bottles of meds. I just tossed out some old stuff I had and will probably be going thru my cabinets some more to get rid of stuff I don't need or is too old. I really don't want that to be me.
Right now, I am taking Calcium, Vit D and Folic Acid and that's it. I may eventually drop Folic Acid. I have been trying to get that Activit Multi-vitamin in during dinner and will see about incorporating it at that time.

Once I finish Power90 and I order P90X, I would like to go ahead and get the supplements at that time too. I've been wanting to get them, but...just expensive. I do want to immerse myself however in the P90X once I do so as it will be about May and time to kick it into high gear before summer vacation is here!  I am very excited tho' that I am doing this! I am in week 3 of Power90 and I almost finished with it and going to be starting week 4 on Monday!! You know, it has really helped me alot to think of it in that way and to see when I will be moving to the blue disk. I got to have something to look forward to! It's just amazing and this has been the best I have done on this program since the first time I attempted it when I lived in Vegas, some 7 years ago!

Well time to go to WOWY and check off the days I have worked out and catch up with myself at the supergym there. :) Have a great weekend!

Just Unbelievable...

Wow....I am just...flabbergasted! To date, 8 lbs gone. Just melted away!! That is amazing! I have lost 8 lbs in two weeks! WOW!

The first week was rough to get into the workouts again. It is always hard to get into a good routine and make a new habit. I couldn't seem to manage to get up early and out of bed and on upstairs to push play. I would get dressed, dillydally around and then once I got on the computer, that was it. I would put it off til after breakfast, then after snack, lunch....and before I knew it, it was afternoon almost evening! BUT!
I pushed myself and made myself go up there. Only one day I missed and I made up for it by working out 2x the next day!
Then, I remained on track. :)

Today, is my day off and I sure do need some down time, not just the workouts but some stress I recently am feeling and I gotta calm and relax so today is the day to do just that! I will take my measurements and see where I am at and log them into Beachbody. I just can't believe it! I am so excited! I was hoping for 10 lbs a month but I knew that was a lot to ask or hope for, so I thought 15 lbs gone would be great even by April 1st. That first week was the worst and then this past week, I got better at it and making sure I got my butt upstairs to do the workouts in Power90. I could feel myself becoming stronger! I can do more push-ups and I was feeling my muscles were sore but it was the good kind where you know they are getting a workout. It felt marvelous to stretch with Tony and I felt I could do so even better than before too!

So wow...194 now, flat!

Now, I have Valentine's Day to get thru. Luckily, I was very emphatic about not being given a heart-shaped box of chocolates. I think this is the first year that I didn't get that from family. I asked for just one of those Reeses PeanutButter hearts. I only wanted one. Of course they got me two packs of two! But...I will end up only eating the one. They did get me a dozen pink roses and mmm they smell really nice! I think I will end up just switching utterly tho' to the flowers instead of chocolate at all.

I did go by Godiva and pick up the free chocolate as I am part of the chocolate club. (Did I mention my sweet tooth?) Of course we had to pick out a few items from the display case as well but I did good and only had one piece that night. I still lost weight too!

I think the key is that you don't over do it with all that stuff. I know first hand, with not having a gall bladder that I have to have some fat, some bad to counter the really good stuff. That has been a problem for me with having had my gall bladder removed. How it was explained to me was that the gall bladder will normally send extra acid over to your stomach to help you digest the hard to digest things, like high fat, hot dogs, shrimp...things like that. So when you don't have a gall bladder, it can very well hurt if I eat too much of those things or if I do not chew them up properly into fine bits first and even then, I have to be sure I don't overdo it. It's tough!  Not having a gall bladder effects people differently. Some can eat whatever they want they feel and not notice any difference, others feel free to eat whatever and feel better, others can't eat high fiber, some can't have tea or coffee, or like me, the high fat nor too much of the hot dogs, shrimp...etc. I do still eat some of that but with hot dogs it's only a bite of someone's, shrimp has to be really fine and only small amounts. I also have problems with sausage or too much of that as that is very high in fat. I steer away from too much fried foods and the drive-thru junk like McDonald's fries and the quarterpounder with cheese (which I do love!). And yes, I know McDonald's now offers alot more healthier choices, but I can't resist my favorite if I go thru there! I remember quite well the things I ate while living on Okinawa, before I had my gall bladder removed, that just sent me spiraling into excruciating pain for like 10-12 hours as I felt it move around inside my intestines until it was finally out. The military thought it was just heartburn or indigestion or because I was eating spicey food. So they gave me Mylanta Plus and patted me on the head and sent me home. DOH!

That's not what it was. I would stay away from spicey food, especially the homemade red beans and rice with sausage that had seemed to be what started the whole doubling over in pain as well as the many homemade chili burritos I used to eat. No pain meds would touch this either. I would just have to bend over the back of a high recliner and rock a bit but the pain would go on, ripping right through me. I'd drink juice or water, tons of it to get things moving. It was horrible. The moment I got back to the states however, in Vermont, when I had another attack, I went to the ER as I couldn't take it no more and  they immediately knew it was my gall bladder. Gave me a percocet which knocked me for a loop and sure enough after examining me and all, they could see I had a bunch of gall stones having a party in my gall bladder and they had to come out. Unfortunately for me, I had bronchitis/laryngitis at the same time and could not have the surgery until I got that under control.

Man....I've been thru alot!

So, needless to say, I remember full well what sent me off and so I try to be careful. Every now and then, I run across some food I ate the night before that has me in pain in the mornings and I try to remember not to eat that again or steer from it. Not easy at times.

That's where Shakeology comes in! Before, after the gall bladder was removed, I would try to eat super healthy and I would almost get constipated. If I ate too much high fat foods or too much fried foods, I would have diarrhea. Lovely. So, I had to figure out a good balance. I managed to figure out that unsweetened ice tea would counteract the contipation or if I ate a lil bit of chocolate or something bad like that. And if I got diarrhea, I would eat pretzels. I went on in life like that for many years, trial and error and slowly learning the triggers for my body. Then along came Shakeology. They tout it as being the healthiest meal you can have! I read the ingredients and loved the little booklets they show you how the guy goes to the wilds and remotest places to get these ingredients and I am just like WOW! That's amazing! I have to say too that when I started to drink Shakeology, I noticed a huge difference almost right away! It balanced out my system perfectly! I became regular and did not and do not go to one extreme or the other at all! I feel lighter and better! AND! Even better, is that it really does taste great! Of course I love to put some peppermint oil into it and it's like drinking a PeppermintPattie! YUM! I adore mint! I also use Vanilla Almond Milk as well.

And now with adding in the exercising to the Shakeology too, I feel tons better and like my body is really starting to change! It's great! This is the first time I have been able to stick with Power90 now for 2 weeks straight in such a very long time...I would guess since I lived in Vegas and had to stop when I got plantars fascitis. I try to tell myself that the workouts are only so long and that is that and I can do it, just get up there and get it done and if I do it first thing in the morning, I will be done for the rest of the day! It feels great! I am on the first disk, the yellow one, Sweat & Sculpt 1-2 and have been doing those alternately for two weeks straight with just Sundays off for rest, which is part of the program. You gotta allow yourself a day to recover. So I have two more weeks to go and then, come March, I'll be switching to the blue disk, Sweat & Sculpt 3-4! That's when I think I will really see some big changes! I do want to increase my weights that I am lifting this week, not by a lot but a little bit. I've already lost some body weight now and it's just wild to me and feels amazing especially to see those numbers go down!

So here's to another 2 weeks!!

Melting Away!!

196.5!! Alright! It's happening...ohh yesss!! In the words of Tony Horton!

WOO HOO!

I skipped the meat loaf and vermont cheddar mac & cheese last night in favor of a salmon salad and I am so glad I did! WOW! To see things moving like this is exciting!

I tasted one tiny lil elbow macaroni and then happily went on to my salmon salad where I had replaced the shredded cheese to shredded carrots. I crunched away and was so happy for it as we sat up there and watched The Dead Files.

I didn't get to sleep til late so I'll workout here in about 45 mins after I give my bod a chance to digest my snack I just had. I need to get to bed earlier tho' and rest more.

I've been feeling really good tho'...lighter and more energy again. At times I do get sleepy but I know it's cause I haven't been resting enough. I'll get into that habit as well here soon! :)

Mmmm don't you just love a nice crisp granny smith apple? Awesome! Juicy, tart and cold from the fridge! I saw that Shakeology will be coming out with the strawberry flavored drink. That sounds pretty good. I had to wonder tho' what had happened to the other one that was orange in color like passion fruit or something it was?? I still have not tasted the green berry as I am afraid I wouldn't like it and then be stuck with the whole big envelope. I really do like the chocolate. I watched a vid clip today of Tony mixing it up with just water and ice and the green berry. I don't normally add ice to mine and I use the Almond milk. I am sure that puts on more calories.
I also saw that the suggested menu in Beachbody was suggesting to use Shakeology as my snack? I was replacing one of the major meals with it tho'...so made me go hmmmm. Makes me worry am I eating enough? It's a good question to ask tho', to replace a snack or a meal with Shakeology? Which is recommended??

Let's ask on their FB! :)

Hmm looks like it might be a preference thing...

It does taste delicious tho' either way!

Ok time to go get that workout in!!

I'm Doin' It!

YEP YEP YEP!! It's happening!
I missed the workout on Monday so I endeavored to do it yesterday as well as yesterday's scheduled workout too. I spaced them apart, one in the morning and the other in the evening.
I am feeling pretty sore this morning but feeling good that I did it!

I did weigh myself and back to 197.5! YAY!
I won't do measurements until this Sunday to see where I am at. I got past the first week and this is the 2nd week and I am falling into the habit and schedule now! I would have worked out this morning but the time got away from me and I have to take my son to his allergy appointment so I'll end up working out this afternoon instead. BUT! Tomorrow, I'll be back at doing the workout in the mornings as I will be setting my alarm and making sure that I get to sleep at a decent hour so I can get plenty of rest for the next day's workout. :)

It feels so good to be back at it again and to feel myself getting used to the exercising and I can feel my arms getting stronger as I can do more of the push-ups than before and better.
I also ate better yesterday. Dinner was a salmon salad and I finally kept off the no fat cheese and used shredded carrots instead. I need to get into the habit of eating side salads however and then to have the salmon or fish with steamed veggies. With my braces off, I have to remind myself that I CAN eat salads easily now. I had steered clear of them due to the lettuce getting stuck, but now that's not a problem.
I had lots of water yesterday and a cup of hot coconut ginger tea again at bedtime. It was really nice and relaxing as I watched a movie and felt nice and fresh from the shower.
Tonight, I'll probably soak in the garden tub as I can feel my muscles are sore. I also want to try to get the multi-vitamin, Activit, in there too maybe for dinner or snack. Just something extra. The supplements that Beachbody offers would be great to have but they are a bit expensive. Sometimes tho', you just have to invest in your health!

Well now to keep this momentum and I believe I can too! It's so encouraging and I keep thinking of all those flirty and flowy, breezy skirts I could wear and how much better I will look in them when I lose more of this middle area! I would say belly but it's not just that, it's a thickening of the chest cavity that many women who are my age and older are experiencing. It's one of those design faults where when women get older they begin to lose their waist. I think it's not a matter of losing it, oh we know where it's at! It's just a matter of it expanding to points and destinations unknown!!

So we have to whittle away the junk that seems to want to collect there or make us get thick in the middle like that. So it means paying attention and dedicating yourself to a lot of hard work and effort put forth to be sure that doesn't happen! I know, battling age and genetics and all sorts of things here, but it is a battle I know I can win if I really put my mind to it!

Ok, I should get ready to take my son to his appointment and then return home so I can change into workout clothes and get busy! Feeling good tho' that I am doing this!! It's just so exciting to know it is working and things are moving around!!!

Focus on Nutrition for Cancer Patients

Focus on Nutrition for Cancer Patients

Fighting a battle with cancer can be overwhelming at times and there are many obstacles to overcome. While undergoing treatment, your body will go through big changes and you will need to adjust to them. After treatment, you will want to do everything you can to keep the cancer from recurring. A healthy diet can help you with all these challenges and can help you live longer.

Healthy Eating after Cancer Treatment

Cancer treatment has side effects that can cause eating problems. You may experience a change in appetite or your mouth and throat may be sore so that you have trouble chewing and swallowing. Your digestive tract may be affected and you may have diarrhea or constipation. Food may smell and taste differently and you may experience either weight gain or loss. During different stages of treatment patients may be recommended specific diets such as the clear liquid diet
, full liquid diet or soft food diet. This can be suggested for people with all types of cancers going through chemotherapy like colon cancer, breast cancer and rare forms of cancers like mesothelioma and pancreatic cancer.

The American Cancer Society suggests that cancer patients eat a variety of foods that include five or more servings of fruits and vegetables. These are full of antioxidants that nourish and protect cells. All grains need to be whole grains and dairy products should be limited. Protein needs to be low in saturated fats, so pick lean meat, fish, eggs, seeds, beans, and nuts. Things to avoid completely or to eat very little of are fatty meats and refined sugar.

Preventing Cancer with Diet

There are certain natural ingredients in fruits and vegetables that have been shown to prevent cancer and to keep it from returning. These phytochemicals will support the immune system, repair DNA, support enzymatic function, and help to detoxify the body so disease-causing toxins are flushed out.

The Prostrate Cancer Foundation
has dietary guidelines to help prevent prostate cancer. One guideline is to watch the number of calories you consume and to exercise so that you maintain a healthy weight. Limit consumption of fat from dairy products and red meat. Suggested foods are fish which has omega-3 fatty acids, tomatoes, cruciferous vegetables, soy, and green tea. Cruciferous vegetables include bok choy, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, cress, broccoli, kale, and rutabaga.

The American Cancer Society
states that diet plays a part in preventing colorectal cancer. It is suggested that you eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains every day. You also need to avoid red meat and processed meat as there has been a connection shown between these foods and developing colorectal cancer. Alcohol consumption has been shown to increase the risk of colorectal cancer, especially in men, so it should be limited.

Struggling to be Good

Well so far, I have been working out faithfully with Power90 all this week as of Monday. My weight is holding at 198 flat and it was a bit disconcerting to not see it move at all. I began to think the scale was broke! So, I went and lifted my travel toiletries bag just to see it change and it did!! So that made me feel better to know that the scale is not broken.
I know, I know...I shouldn't be looking at the scale every day. It's a habit and a curiousity that I can't seem to shake. I may use it as a reward for myself at the end of the week and see if I can possibly stay away from it. The scale can be something that is disheartening just as much as it can be encouraging. But the scale that simply weighs you, is not accurate as to the fat/muscle percentage or exchange that may very well be going on in your body.

I can feel my muscles are sore from yesterday's workout. I managed to get it in there last night, forced myself to go upstairs as I had put it off all day long. It has been hard to get back into the routine and not just say, to heck with it all! But I keep it in my mind that no...I want to lose this, I want to finally do it! Besides, my motivation is to trim up as much as I can before the Ren Faire in April starts! I want to really look nice in my bodice this year like I did last year.

Also, what helps me to keep the blues or discouragements down to a minimum about the weight thing, is to remember things that I have heard Tony Horton say, and I know it is his opinion, that women should really have 90 days or 120 day programs because it takes longer I believe for women to let go of their fat. I think it takes longer for our bodies to adjust to it all. I can't remember what he had said was his reasoning exactly for thinking women needed it longer to get us in gear, but I would think that that is it. I do remember that it was said that it took 30 days for your body to realize that you are not kidding about this and that you are serious about chucking the fat. At first, it may cling on or just think, yea right, suuurreeee you are working out..un huh...riiiiiight! It is waiting for you to quit. Waiting for you to give up and clinging on to cravings and battling with you as you try to get into a good routine and schedule.

One of the things I haven't been doing well is getting the proper rest. That is so paramount to this too. I have to set the schedule. In bed by 10 pm on most nights and up at 6. Gives me a good 7-8 hours of rest and sleep. I've been trying but it is not always working as I am still trying to catch up from the trip with everything that needs to be done.

So the first week now is almost complete. I just will need to work out today and tomorrow and then Sunday is my day of rest. I will probably go up around lunch time to get this Sculpt 1-2 done as it is shorter time too than the Sweat 1-2. For me, this month of February will be about conditioning myself and getting into the routine and schedule/habit of exercising and working out all the kinks of bad eating and not enough rest. So by the time the end of the month is here, I should be on track and ready to move to the blue disk come March! Hmmm going to look on the calendar schedule at Beachbody to see exactly what day I would move to the blue one. Ah, it looks like it is day 31, on week 5, so that puts me right at February 29 as the first day to do Sculpt 3-4 on the blue Power90 disk! And hmm that is interesting, on the 89th day, they have you doing both Sculpt and Sweat 3-4 and the last day is just Sweat 3-4 with of course the Ab Ripper 200, like normal.

Well Tony Horton...I say....BRING IT! I am ready and I am so going to do this!! I will finish Power90 if it kills me!

I know once I am finished or close to completing it, I should go ahead and order P90X. That will be a huge challenge then. I know I can do it however. If all those other people can and have, I can too!

I do need to fix my meals yet. Last night was a taco salad and I really should have just made it a regular salad and skipped all the taco stuff. :(
It was way too much food as well.

So, today is a new day. I have no idea what we will have for dinner but I am going to be careful and steam some veggies and some chicken. Would really love some applesauce. I was looking for some last night. I need to have a side salad too and need to pick up some shredded carrots and cucumber.

Well that's the update thus far! Still going strong and pushin' play!! YAY!

Up next is going to be an article from a guest writer that contacted me when she saw my blog on weight loss and that I had some references to cancer like the pink ribbon and penguin up there in the upper right corner. She has written an interesting article on the importance of taking care of yourself when you have cancer. As a side note, I personally, do not have cancer but I found this to be a good forum for education on that topic too, especially as I have some family members who have struggled with cancer and they are learning to eat more healthy and balanced meals. I hope you enjoy it!
