Weight Loss Enemy: The Scale

Yup! The weight scale is the enemy when you are starting a workout program, starting to try to lose weight.
I was one of those scale-aholics, where I could not stop looking at and weighing myself every day. I couldn't -not- check it each morning.
Well, as I am in the beginning stage of Chalean Extreme and it is very weight-lifting heavy...as in, I am lifting a lot of weights and that means I am building muscle right now. Of course coupled with still finishing off the Nutrisystem food and then the junk I was still eating up until a couple days ago...= no weight loss.

 But is that really accurate?

Good question. More than likely, it is not accurate of the fat loss because the numbers on a scale simply cannot show you if you have lost fat and what part of the numbers are muscle gain.

So I did not step on the scale at first but then the temptation was too much and so I peeked. Disappointed to see it was the same, I knew however that I had to stop eating junk, had to stop eating the peanut m&ms that are here in the house. So the peek served somewhat of a purpose and I finished off breakfast from Nutrisystem and now I have but one more lunch left, tho I do have a lot of dinners still. I am thinking still about boxing up the NS food left as I still have desserts too and setting it aside until after this workout program. Undecided tho yet as they are convenient but I can't seem to shake the feeling that they are holding me back.

But the scale issue aside, I do feel really great! Yes, one lb down, but the increased energy and feeling so much stronger too, is just a great feeling, as well as just the accomplishment of knowing I did it, I got the workout done first thing in the morning and done for the day.

I also have been trying to get to sleep earlier so I do get in some proper rest.
So far, so good! I am very proud of myself for having come this far and can truly see myself going all the way! I am enjoying this first month of workouts with this program. :)

I just feel like this year is about a lot of changes, so much is really going well!
Part of me would really like to get the business part of this off the ground, but I know I am my most worst enemy there and I really feel that I need to get fit and show and prove the workouts do work. To have a good before and after is key. Then and only then can I say, yes, you can do it as I know where you are for I was there, starting over and over and over again over many years, til finally I found a program that I clicked with and was at a point in my life where I was ready to make the lifetime change and not just the temporary change so I got the temporary weight loss and with return of bad habits came return of even more fat.
I want to be able to really show the changes. So that means I need to walk the walk not just talk the talk. Pictures are worth a thousand words...video? Even more!

Sum it up? No scale until I do measurements at the end of this section of the workout, so it means I have two weeks to go. I need to keep cleaning up my diet and should start to count  calories to be sure I am eating enough. And just keep pushing play, no matter what, keep doing what I know is right, get stricter with myself. :)

And on that note, off to sleep! :)

2nd Week - Chalean Extreme

This is my second week working out with Chalean Extreme and I have to say, so far, I am really enjoying it!
This week is the same as week one and I continue the same order of workouts throughout the first month. I am happy to be back lifting weights as I have always enjoyed doing that. Chalene fits in two cardio sessions, one is mixed with weights and the other is more predominately cardio.
I have felt my muscles get sore from day one and then slowly gain strength now and not be so sore.
I know that won't last and the heavier of weights I go, the more challenging it is to my muscles. To that end, I do need to head over to Sports Authority and pick up more weights and also to get new sneakers as the ones I have are really too old and I need better support.

I finally finished the breakfasts from Nutrisystem and will be finishing the lunches. The dinners and desserts still have a way to go before I am done but lately, I am thinking of stopping that now, putting NS away and just going back to eating more healthy real food so I can see results now rather than later by doing away with the pastas that NS seems to have so much of. I feel like my body is warring with itself with this right now coupled with eating junk too, it's just not good. I need to go back to eating healthy. Naturally so.

I have already felt more energetic and more driven and focused since starting this workout program and I have to say, it does feel good. Almost feeling like I should do doubles but don't want to kill myself with it so, just one day at a time is good.
:)

I am already, also, feeling good about myself and that too, is very important.

But for now, I need some sleep. :)

Good proper rest is a very big deal.
So goodnight everyone! :)

It is never easy

It is never easy to get started and stay motivated to work out, exercise and to make that lifestyle change so that you eat better and make exercise a part of your day.
Even when you love the feeling of such energy charging through your system, it can still be difficult to maintain. So many things in life can interrupt or get in the way, become obstacles that make you stumble and fall. Or just stop completely and go right back to your old habits, which means that the weight returns and usually returns in a frenzy!

Next thing you know, you have packed on the pounds and more than what you had originally started with!

After that, many people become depressed and discouraged. It can be a very sad, terrible cycle.

So what do you do?

Good question.

I think when you are at that point, that you have to really look at your life and the reasons you stopped or reverted back to your bad choices and lack of exercise.

For me, it was at first my cycle. So I figured out a way to deal with it in fact just work thru my menstrual cycle and of course as I approach menopause, my periods are few and far between. Bonus!

The second obstacle I was encountering were all the trips I was taking. So I began to just work out in the hotel. This had a 50/50 success rate as it was hard to keep up that as when I would get to the room, I would want to just relax and so all good intentions were out the window.

The other obstacles? Were holidays....special dinners...things like that. Those were not too hard to overcome. The birthday or holiday goodies were replaced with flowers and clothes and things I could not eat and so the rewards were not food or desserts, but instead, something nice I could wear or a material item. As for the scrumptious dinners, I satisfied myself with just one bite and then I ate my more healthy choice.  That helped a great deal!

Not seeing the weight drop on the scale.
Oh that is such a toughie! It's really not a fair judge either for while you are working out, you are gaining muscle mass so it might appear you gained instead of losing fat, but in reality, you have lost more than you may know. You really have to go by measurements and not the number on the scale.

Ok so what are the good motivations?
Everyone always starts out well, full of fire and energy.
Losing weight and getting fit to allay the fear of dying or getting cancer.
Wanting to lose "x" amount of weight to fit into a certain outfit or in time for an event or trip.
Also, to just feel better about yourself. For those of you who have exercised before and know the feeling I am talking about, when you exercise, you really feel rejuvenated and it actually gives you more energy and you don't feel as sluggish or tired.

And the list goes on and is unique to everyone's special circumstances and issues in life.

Yet, despite these motivations, you can still falter, still quit and give up or even settle and try to be happy at the weight you are. But doing that, your weight issues don't go away. Your health issues that the excess weight has been the cause of, do not go away.

So, you have to ask yourself, just how bad do you want it. How bad do you want to lose weight? What are you willing to do to get fit? Are you ready to make this a lifetime change for a lifetime of better health? Cause a temporary fix means the loss is only going to be temporary and you will end up with all that weight back and then some added on to boot! Plus, the older you get, the harder it is to lose it. Your metabolism will hit rock bottom and you will have to jump start it to get it going again. Your obstacles become even greater than what they ever were.

Sounds daunting eh?

It can be. But, as Beachbody says, commit...and I prefer the term: "dedicate" yourself. I see it as a gift to give yourself, to really care about yourself, your body, your health and do what you know is the right thing for your body.

So what am I leading up to?

Yes, I am re-dedicating myself. I feel I needed something more vigorous and longer than T25. I needed a basic, hard core program, and I needed weights incorporated more so. I need to make working out, a non-negotiable act or event or activity in my life. I hated to set the T25 aside, but I will return to it, made that promise to myself.
But for now, I am laying myself in Chalene's hands, in my own hands, and get myself disciplined and back into a good routine. I need to do this for me.

Ok so my motivations and goals:
Get more fit by May 30th, before I fly off for the UK. I would love to lose like 50 lbs, but I will take what I can get at this point. Still, that is a long term goal. Short is more like 5-10 a month, I would be happy. Even more happier to lose the inches!

So Chalean Extreme is on the way and should arrive this week and that means I will be starting next Monday! I am looking forward to starting!

Wish me luck! Better yet, join me!

See you there!
